Lloyd Warford, an attorney with the Arkansas Public Defenders Commission, filed the affidavit in May 2008 in the circuit court in Jonesboro where Echols and co-defendant Jason Baldwin were tried in March 1994. Baldwin was sentenced to life in prison.
Sources familiar with the case say that, in it, Warford states that Kent Arnold, the foreman for the Echols-Baldwin jury, telephoned him repeatedly while the trial was in progress and talked about what was happening.
Judge David Burnett, who officiated at the trial, expressly forbade such discussions. Lawyers for Echols argue that Arnold's conversations with Warford compromised the integrity of the jury process and that Echols deserves a new trial.

FORMER NYPD HOMICIDE DETECTIVE SEEKS NEW EVIDENCE IN WEST MEMPHIS 3 CASE

Former NYPD homicide detective Jay Salpeter, who uncovered crucial new evidence leading to the exoneration of Martin Tankleff, has joined the effort to free the West Memphis 3. Private investigator Salpeter will ask the public’s help in his investigation seeking the truth in the murders of the young boys. Lorri Davis and others leading the effort to free Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, will join him at a news conference on Tuesday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Trios, Pavilion Room, 8201 Cantrell, Little Rock.

APRIL DATES FOR MISSKELLEY'S RULE 37 HEARINGS CONFIRMED

Jessie Misskelley's Rule 37 hearings will proceed in Jonesboro on April 2nd and 3rd with the cross examination of Dan Stidham and Gregory Crow by Brent Davis' successors, and re-cross done by Jeff Rosensweig, Jessie's Arkansas attorney as his lead San Francisco attorney, Michael Burt, will not be present. There will be further Rule 37 hearings for Baldwin and Misskelley featuring forensic experts and their full legal teams tentatively scheduled for two weeks in August. We will announce the actual dates here as soon as we receive official confirmation.

MISSKELLEY RULE 37 HEARING MAY CONTINUE IN MARCH

UPDATE March 23 2009: Jessie Misskelley's Rule 37 hearings will proceed in Jonesboro the week of March 30 with cross examination of Dan Stidham and Gregory Crow by Brent Davis' successor, and re-cross by Jessie's Arkansas attorney, Jeff Rosensweig. His San Francisco attorney, Michael Burt, will not be present nor will Jason Baldwin and his legal team.
