Michelle Remembers
By: Michelle Smith, Lawrence Pazder (Contributor)

This is the book that started it all. Michelle Smith recalls her horrific experiences in a huge Satanic cult. She describes in lurid detail the sacrifices and the rituals, and her doctor Lawrence Pazder believes every word and encourages more and more. The book also contains photos of an alleged "manifestation" in a fire near Michelle. She claims to have been molested by Satan himself (who spoke in rhyme), and that her involvement with the cult began when her mother was forced to hand her over to the Satanists for use in their most important ritual. Smith and Pazder were eventually married, and her stories were eventually debunked. Includes photos. -B.Sauls

Remembering Satan
By: Lawrence Wright

In 1988, two young girls began making accusations of sexual abuse against their father. The stories that they told were "recovered memories" that were "brought out" of them at a Christian retreat for young girls. The woman who "discovered" these "memories" is Karla Franco, a charismatic evangelical Christian who believes that she has the gift of healing and spiritual discernment. Formerly a dancer, standup comic and actress, Franco often speaks to youth groups. After Franco announced "visions" of an abused girl, several of the young girls came forward, and before long, and under Franco's "guidance," Ericka and Julie Ingram had concocted tales of Satanic cults with members from all walks of life taking turns molesting them. Their father, Paul Ingram, a respected deputy sheriff, was seemingly at the center of the conspiracy. Claims of horrible scars were proven untrue, and no evidence was found of any cult activity, and yet the local community was furious and hysterical. An intensely frustrating book, but highly recommended as an example of the dangers of "recovered memory." -B.Sauls
